Blogs for Evangelism - Part 1
One of our goals on Church Blog is to demonstrate how people can use the Internet to have an impact on the Kingdom of God. This can be done by starting blogs and websites for believers, but also by starting blogs and websites that are more geared towards evangelism. By learning the basic principles of setting up a blog and some simple SEO (search engine optimization) techniques it is possible to get sites started that have the potential to reach people all over the world. To demonstrate this principle we are starting a site called Current Events Online. We will work on this site to get a good return on the search engines and then we will develop ways to use the site as an evangelistic tool.
For this demonstration, we have purchased a domain name from Good News Domains, (www.currenteventsonline.com), we have chosen the free hosting plan (we will be dealing with a banner across the top of our site but by using the free hosting we can run this site on the $10/year we are paying for the domain name),and we installed WordPress.
To make the site readable we have added some quick content to the site by using six RSS feeds from various news agencies and by adding video feeds of current events from all over the world. Here is what the site looks like today:
We will further develop the site by writing articles on current events from a biblical perspective and adding them to the site. Our hope is to present a balanced well thought out approach to sharing our viewpoint in a way that will encourage discussion and allow us to build relationship with our readers. This site will start to reach its potential after it begins to show up on the search engines and we will keep you posted on it’s progress on Church Blog.
Welcome to Church Blog
Welcome to the Church Blog! The Internet provides an amazing opportunity for ministry. When you start your own church blog you will be able to send your message all over the world. You can start a blog that looks like a traditional church website, or you can get more creative and use your holy imaginations to take your church blog in new directions. You can target your blog to your existing church members, or you can create a blog to reach out to new people, or even to people on the other side of the planet. The options are virtually limitless.
You will also quickly find out that the Internet provides the most economical way of multiplying your ministry that there is. You can start a blog with amazing impact for free. There are also a number of very inexpensive options that might serve you better, but it would be a very rare situation where you would need to spend more than $100/year for your web ministry. If you take the right steps, your church blog can actually become a revenue stream.
Check out some of the articles from existing church blogs that are available in the RSS feeds on this site. You will also find information on how to get your own church blog started in the articles here.
As Jesus said, “Come follow me, and I will make you fishers of men”. Get your church blog started, the fishing is great!
